Retro mode lets your rabbit r1 answer with the classic rabbit assistant instead of rabbit OS3. You keep using OS3 in your browser and on your connected computers, while your r1 goes back to working the way it did before OS3.

This article explains what retro mode changes, how to turn it on and off, and answers common questions.

what retro mode changes

When retro mode is on:

  • Your r1 answers with the classic rabbit assistant. When you hold the side button and speak, the classic assistant answers, not OS3.
  • OS3 does not speak on your r1. Messages from OS3, such as a background task reporting back, are not read out on your r1.
  • OS3 cannot use your r1. OS3 cannot take actions on your device while retro mode is on.
  • Intern and creations are paused on your r1. Tapping intern or create with intern tells you retro mode is on instead of starting. To make an r1 creation, turn retro mode off, or ask OS3 in your browser.

When retro mode is off, your r1 is a channel into OS3 again.

Retro mode only changes what happens on your r1. Your OS3 account, conversations and connected computers are not affected.

how to turn retro mode on or off

  1. Open OS3 and go to settings → r1. Retro mode only appears once a device is linked.
  2. Under retro mode, toggle enable retro mode on or off.

The change applies from the next thing you say to your r1. You do not need to restart or reconnect your r1.
