r1 can connect to the internet in a number of ways:

Wi-Fi: Compatible with both 2.4 and 5 GHz bands. Connectivity through captive portal logins is not currently supported.

cellular data: r1 supports up to 4G LTE data-only cellular connectivity through a Nano SIM card slot.
Currently the r1 is unlikely to be compatible with SIM cards from MVNOs, SIM cards bound to specific device SNs, or SIM cards bound to a particular region. The r1 doesn’t support eSIM at this time.

We haven’t had a chance to test all the SIM cards out there, but you can find tips and community recommendations at our discord channel.

hot spot: you can connect your r1 to a compatible device via hotspot as well!
