introducing DLAM shortcuts

DLAM shortcuts header

DLAM is our desktop AI agent that uses rabbit r1 as a driver to navigate and interact with applications on your computer, just like you would. Whether you're managing complex workflows across multiple apps or automating repetitive tasks, DLAM operates directly within your desktop environment to get things done. For more on how to get started with DLAM, check out our introductory blog post.

AI agents can be extremely useful, but they don't always take the most efficient path to complete a task. Sometimes they add unnecessary steps or approach things differently than you would, which can slow down how quickly the task gets done. This can be frustrating when you have a specific workflow you want to follow consistently. Finding ways to make AI act in more deterministic ways (i.e., sticking closely to the same fixed set of instructions in the same way every time) was the inspiration behind us launching teach mode back in late 2024, and it's the same thinking that has led us to introduce DLAM shortcuts.

what are DLAM shortcuts?

A DLAM shortcut is essentially your way to personalize DLAM for specific ways that you use it. They allow you to create custom commands with precise, repeatable instructions, giving you more direct control over automating processes based on your unique workflow needs.

Each shortcut consists of three components:

  • Name: give each shortcut a title of your choosing
  • Description: context about what the shortcut does
  • Body: the detailed instructions DLAM will follow

Once saved and active, you don't need to use a specific phrase. DLAM will use your shortcut whenever it is relevant to your request.

real-world use cases

You can set up shortcuts for any process that you would normally have DLAM execute on your behalf. Then, you can easily kick off that workflow in the future. Here are some examples:

  • Daily News Briefing: Instead of repeatedly telling DLAM to "open a new Chrome tab, go to BBC News, summarize the top stories, and email them to me," create a shortcut called "news update" that does exactly this. One phrase, and you're caught up on current events.
  • Development Workflow Automation: Set up a shortcut that navigates to your IDE (like Cursor or VS Code), checks your latest commits, and deploys them to GitHub. What normally takes several manual steps becomes a single voice command.
  • Creative Project Setup: If you're a musician or producer, you can create a shortcut that opens Ableton Live, loads a specific project template, and configures their preferred plugins and settings—turning a 10-minute setup process into seconds.
  • Multi-Application Task Chains: Build shortcuts that span multiple applications in sequence. For instance, pull data from a spreadsheet, generate a report, format it in a specific template, and email it to your team.

getting started with DLAM shortcuts

Setting up a shortcut is straightforward:

  1. Plug your r1 into your computer with a USB-C cable
  2. Go to dlam.rabbit.tech to open the DLAM interface
  3. Click the gear icon on the bottom left to open shortcuts
  4. Click "new," fill in the details, and save your shortcut
  5. Refresh the page, and your shortcut is ready to go

We think that many of you are going to really push the boundaries of what's possible with DLAM shortcuts. It's a uniquely rabbit take on memory, prompt injection and time-saving, all within a system that can do practically anything on your computer.
